Good morning! Well, we are about four and a half hours before the July non-waiver trade deadline. I am going to be away from the computer for about the next 6-7 hours at least, but I do want to have a place where you can discuss any trade rumors or anything that actually happens. Obviously mlbtraderumors.com is an excellent source. The Strib Twins blogs will also likely have any specific Twins information we are looking for. So, please feel free to discuss trades here. For instance, I see that the White Sox finally got Ken Griffey (haven’t they been trying to acquire him for 2-3 years!), but i haven’t seen for who. Any analysis or opinion is welcome. Just be nice!

The might Whities just traded for Griffey Jr. and are looking at Street too. If nothing else, the White Sox GM is willing to go all in. I wonder where they will play Junior?

With Neshek, Cuddyer, & Casilla’s injuries and Liriano’s recovery, it doesn’t make sense to “go for it” this year.

i dont get that move because Darnell Mcdonald got hit by a pitch yesterday and broke his hand and is out for the year. So i only see 2 legitimite outfielders on Rochesters roster right now in
1. Jason Pridie
2. Garrett Olson(who is more a 1st baseman but can play out there.
They have been putting Howie Clark out there so are we looking at an outfield of Howie Clark, Jason Pridie, and Garrett Jones thats scary. I dont see a point of bringing up Hughes unless he is going to play outfield because we have a glut of infielders in Macri, Plouffe, Santos,Machado already so i think it would of made better sense to of brought up Tolleson,Peterson or Lis atleast they are good outfielders.
shucks, LaRoche goes to the Pirates. One more dream crushed by the Twins’ refusal to try to get better for the present…and the future.
As much as I would have liked LaRoche, look what was given up in this deal to get him. That is the problem right now in the Twins making a move, I’m assuming every team was asking for one of our 4 starters or Span and they smartly didn’t go there. I don’t have a problem with not making a deal this year because I think this teams future is very bright with what they have. I would have liked to see a smaller deal for a middle infielder but we’ll just go get it with what we’ve got.
Andy, the future is so unknown. Everyone picked Cleveland for this year because all those young guys would get better, all the things looked good last year, they made some minor tweaks, and BAM. It all fell apart. The Twins are more likely to compete this year, because they already are competing this year. Lots can change for next year. You seriously would rather have Span, Gomez, Young, Kubel and Cuddeyer, than have 1 less of them and LaRoche or Beltre? Having 5 OFers does no good. You can only play 3-4 at a time. That is the falacy of the Twins’ thought process for the last few years. They’d rather have deptth than have greatness spread around. They are afraid of what could go wrong (gotta have AAA pitchers, just in case there is an injury), than they are hopeful for what can go right.

For me… yes… I would rather have the current Twins. Long term success is more important in my opinion.
What do you do with 5 OFers, Seth? And, LaRoche isn’t exactly old….neither is Beltre for that matter. You’d really rather have 5 OFers than a new 2B or 3B? I don’t understand the rationale. Can you explain why you want to have more OFers than can play?
If the Dodgers would have taken Span straight up for LaRoche, I would take it in a heart beat. The Dodgers wouldn’t do that. I could consider dealing Kubel or Cuddyer straight up for LaRoche, but again, I don’t think the Dodgers would do that. I woudln’t trade Gomez or Young straight up for LaRoche. So, in my mind, it’s not worth worrying about it, under these scenarios.
Well, I think we’ll disagree on this one. Having 5 OFer (plus Hughes and Pridie), 5 SP (plus Duensing, Humber, Manship, Hunt, Mulvey *not in order) and no 3B/SS/2B does little for this team, this year or next year. If you aren’t willing to deal a SP and extra OF for help this year, when you are in contention, you probably won’t next year either. Then, you can have all those extra guys in AAA, just in case, and end up with 88 wins, maybe a wildcard, and a first round loss. Pretty much what they did at the beginning of this decade.
I’m not mad, I’m not surprised, I’m disappointed. I had hoped that this year would be different.
I think the 5 OF is a little stretch. Cuddyer has been hurt half the year and still isnt available. Kubel is a DH with the ability to play the OF, so you cant count him as a primary OF…..that leaves them with 3 right now.
