Talkin’ Twins Baseball

Wednesday Morning Notes

available at www.SethSpeaks.net -

Since I just posted things mid-day Tuesday, I don’t have a lot to update. Bt I did want to post a few things including some links.

PODCAST LAST NIGHT – I am really happy to write about last night’s SethSpeaks.net Twins Podcast. I have told others that I thought it was the best podcast I’ve had yet, and I think there have been some pretty good ones. Now, I rambled and bumbled around for the first four minutes because I was watching some strange things on my monitor. Pat Neshek led off about four or five minutes into the show. He stuck around for almost a half-hour and answered a lot of questions. He talked about his arm, and what he is doing in Florida and what he hopes to do over the next two or three weeks. We talked about the 2008 Twins, some minor leaguers and much more. Erik Van Dyck, the media relations director for the Beloit Snappers, was the next guest. We took questions from the chat room and a caller had a few other questions. About fifteen minutes later, Gary Sharp, the media relations director for the Ft. Myers Miracle called in. For the next half hour, we talked about several players from the Snappers and the Miracle. If you have a chance, please listen to the show. It’s about 75 minutes long, but you can pause it and listen throughout your day… Ear phones are a good thing! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the show, and what you would like to hear on it.

Here are some other notes:

·         Trevor Plouffe was voted as the #13 Twins Prospect, so the vote has now begun for the Twins #14 Prospect, so be sure to keep up with that. Right now, the vote is very close, so be sure to leave your comments. The vote for #15 prospect will start in the afternoon.

·         I’m sorry I missed this, but two weeks ago, Baseball America did a story on David Bromberg. I knew he led the Twins organization in strikeouts with 177, but I did not know that number led all of the minor leagues.

·         Be sure to check out The Newberg Report. It is a site dedicated to the Texas Rangers. He has written an annual book on the team, specifically on their minor league system. I just got a copy of last year’s. Anyway, he got two copies of Josh Hamilton’s recently released book Beyond Belief. He was able to get Hamilton to sign them and then made them available to the two highest bidders with all money going to the charity of Hamilton’s choice. Check out the bids.

·         At Over the Baggy, he looks at the Twins Minor Leaguers who showed the most improvement in their walk rate. I think it’s a good indicator.

·         Parker also wrote a tremendous history of The Psyche of Matt Garza. I definitely encourage you grabbing a cup of coffee and reading it!

·         The Twins Geek was procrastinating and Twins fans should be thrilled. He engaged in my Jake Peavy dream, tried to figure out which veteran starting pitcher the Twins would bring in for 2009 and worried about the A’s signing of Mark Ellis. All worth reading.

·         Aaron Gleeman will be hosting his weekly Live Chat on his site. To answer one of the questions he received last week, YES, he will be on a SethSpeaks podcast one of these weeks!

·         LaVelle mentions the Twins organizational meetings going on in Ft. Myers these days. He then discusses some topics and names he is thinking about.

·         Nick Nelson tells us how to go about Fixing the Bullpen.

Arizona Fall League Tuesday Update

·         The Phoenix Desert Dogs beat Scottsdale 10-6.

·         Jeff Manship started and gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks (and a hit batter) in three innings. 43 of his 67 pitches were strikes.

·         Danny Valencia was 1-3 with his third double before leaving the game for a pinch runner. He also grounded into two more double plays. He played 3B and batted fifth.

·         Steve Tolleson went 3-5 with two RBI. He played SS and batted second. He committed his second error.

·         Dustin Martin went 1-4 with a walk. He batted sixth and played LF.

Any thoughts? E-mail me or leave your Comments here. Have a great day!
