And the MVP is…
Dustin Pedroia… Justin Morneau finished second. He received 7 first place votes. Joe Mauer finished in fourth place. Mauer got two first place votes. Morneau was on all 28 ballots. Interesting note – Dustin Pedroia got 16 first place votes, six second place votes, four third place votes and a fourth place vote. Note that is just 27 votes… did someone completely leave him off of their ballot??
Dustin Pedroia is the winner. Can’t really argue it too much… he would have finished third in my voting, behind Joe Mauer and Kevin Youklis, and just ahead of Justin Morneau. What do you think?

We have to wait just a few more minutes to find out… Did you know that the Negro League Baseball Museum named Justin Morneau their 2008 MVP already? Maybe the Baseball Writers can do the same. MLB.com puts Morneau in their top five in a story they wrote. Joe Mauer (and Joe Nathan) are just mentioned in the Others to note category… Sad! Let’s see what happens!

If Pedroia played for the Twins he wouldn’t have finished in the Top 10.
The (ok, some) writers are stupid…and I’m not saying that because Morneau lost. I’m saying that because Pedroia was left off a ballot, Ryan Howard was left off a ballot and Edinson Volquez received three votes for the NL ROY even though he was NOT eligible.
Yes, I’m sure most of the writers do take the time and research who they should vote for, but there are obviously some morons out there that don’t take the voting seriously.
If Pedroia played for the Twins they would have made the playoffs
Shawn,
certainly:
WPA: Casilla -0.77, Harris: -0.28 ; Pedroia: +3.29
California math: about +4 Wins for the Twins
How baseball writers continue to ignore the difficultly of producing at a high level while playing a full season at catcher amazes me. There’s a reason no catcher in AL history has won a batting title besides Mauer, and now he has two. Pedroia isn’t a bad pick, but he’s not head-and-shoulders above Mauer as the vote indicates.
Sounds like Mauer stole some votes from Mourneau. Personally I hate, but love Pedroia. Hate him b/c he has become a thorn in Twins side. But you gotta love it when the little punch n’ judy hitters are up there with the big boys. Dustin is like Punto, except he has talent.
