Twins SS prospect Trevor Plouffe certainly has shown some pop in his bat throughout his minor league career, even when he was really struggling. On Monday, Plouffe hit a two out, two strike walk off home run to give Team USA a 4-3 win over Team Australia. He added another RBI earlier in the game. The win gives Team USA the number one seed as the team’s head to the third and final round of the World Cup.
Here are the final eight teams that will play in Italy for the World Cup championship. USA (Pool G #1), Cuba (Pool F #3), Puerto Rico (Pool F #2), Venezuela (Pool F #4), the Netherlands (Pool F #1), Australia (Pool G #2), Canada (Pool G #3) and Chinese Taipei (Pool G #4). Here is a reminder of the Twins prospects remaining in the tournament:
- USA – Trevor Plouffe (Terry Tiffee)
- Puerto Rico – Nelvin Fuentes
- Netherlands – Tom Stuifbergen, Loek Van Mil (although he has not played)
- Australia – Luke Hughes, James Beresford, Brad Tippett, Liam Hendriks (Danny Berg)
- Canada – Rene Tosoni
It is interesting the Cuba has won the World Cup 25 times. The next highest winner? Team USA with THREE.

Seth, Luke Hughes is having a big week. In his last three games (won two before losing to USA), Hughes is 8-11 with 3 doubles, a walk, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI and 1 error. Tosoni also had a home run in Canada’s 5-3 win over Taipei. I for one am really looking forward to see how Tosoni does in the AFL.
