Good morning, everyone! Here is a good example of how exhausted I’ve been… last night, I hosted the SethSpeaks.net Live Twins Chat here, and about 90 minutes into it, I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up and answered a couple more questions before calling it a day! So I apologize for the abbreviated blog today, but here are a couple of things for you to peruse:
- First, I will be on Travis Talks Minnesota Sports podcast at 9:00 central time tonight. (his normal time will be Monday nights, but circumstances caused him to move this week’s show.) There will be talk on the Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Gophers and more in the 45 minute show. I look forward to talking about other topics too. So, check it out if you have a chance, and you can call in or send questions through the chat room.
- By the way, Travis finished the work on his Top 50 Twins prospects by posting his Top 5.
- Speaking of podcasts, you should also check out Fanatic Jack’s Twins podcast tonight, also at 9:00 central time (please remember that you can also listen to them later as well).
- Speaking of Fanatic Jack, he continued his anti-Bill Smith, anti-Twins front office rant with a blog called When Hope Turns to Disgust.
- Surprise! Surprise!! Guess who the St. Paul Pioneer Press named their Sports Figure of the Decade?
- Over the Baggy bids Adieu to 2009 with some Twins and AL Central notes, including really good stuff on the Hinske/Kubel debate from last offseason. And, remember how much Twins fans wanted Ty Wigginton? By the way, with the Twins move to Target Field, I think that you should send your thoughts on a potential site name change. I don’t think he needs to change the name, but there could be some interesting suggestions. Mine was After the Baggy.
- Nick Nelson looks at the State of the Twins rotation as it stands today.
- Jesse at Twinkie Town wrote – Position Players: Are the Twins Already Better than Last Year?
- Rob Delaney or Mike McCardell? Who is your choice for the better prospect? Right now at Twinkie Town, the two are in a run-off for Twins Prospect #24!
- Twins Target took a Premature Look at the 2010 Twins Roster.
- Curve for a Strikes’ Twins Blogger: Get to Know ‘Em this week is with Eric Johnson of the Twins blog Undomed.
- Speaking of Undomed, he recently posted his Top 20 Twins Prospects list, so check it out.
- I know I heard this last week, but I haven’t posted it here. Brock Peterson has apparently signed a minor league contract to stay with the Twins organization. I have heard nothing yet about Oswaldo Sosa and Matt Moses signing anywhere yet. I have heard that David Winfree signed elsewhere last week, but I have been unable to confirm that as of yet.
Alright, that is it for today. I will be back, probably, with my final posting of the 2009 year tomorrow. Unless, of course, there is any Twins news. Please feel free to discuss here.

I have a question. This question concerns Target Field. Assuming you have all the details on the length of the field the players will use. Target field falls into one of these category’s. A pitcher friendly park and a hitter friendly park. Now a pitcher friendly park could be good news for guys like Scott Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, Perkins that are flyball pitchers(Maybe not so with Blackburn so much but he does have his days)Now explain these terms from a pitching point of view. will this new park be a blessing for our pitchers or a curse and feel free to use weather conditions as well….
Having been on a tour of the park, there is NO foul territory in this park. Watch out, Mauer might hit .450 in his final year in Minnesota, but that also means guys like Mitch Maier of the Royals will probably hit about .330.
The coolest part of the park in terms of the field is in right field the seats jut out over the right field wall. When I was there the guy giving us the tour said in theory Cuddyer could catch a ball under the awning of the seats.
I’m with you 200%. I’d love to acquire Tejeda.
@ Mark: From memory, I heard that Target Field will have very little foul territory. The pitching staff (whoever said this specifically mentioned Scott Baker) is not getting any help because of this.
Seth,
I think it’s a given that as soon as the Twins sign Mauer to an extension that they will start shopping Morales. Do you agree, have you heard any rumors about this?
With Ramos waiting in the wings, and what they think they will get out of him (assuming his injury isn’t anything that will hold him back long-term; I haven’t heard an update on him) it seems to make complete sense to ship Morales off somewhere.
What are your thoughts? Am I way off base here?
MLBTR said the Mariners are looking at Liriano. Apparently the FO is considering moving some of our excess pitchers.
