Talkin’ Twins Baseball

Cross Him Off the List

The Twins will not be trading for Felipe Lopez. Why? Well, according to BJ Rains, the Brewers acquired the second baseman from the Diamondbacks in exchange for two minor leaguers. Lopez and Freddy Sanchez are probably the two top second basemen believed to be on the trade market. As a reference point, here is what the Brewers had to trade to acquire Lopez:

  • OF Cole Gillespie – At AAA, the 24 year old is hitting .242/.332/.424 with 12 doubles, five triples and seven home runs. He was the Brewers third round pick in 2006. (seems pretty similar to Dustin Martin?)
  • RHP Roque Mercedes – In the Florida State League, he is 1-1 with a 1.08 ERA in 29 relief appearances. In 41.2 innings, he has 45 strikeouts and 15 walks. He seems like a decent prospect because he is so young. In previous years, he spent time as a starter for at least part of the season. (who would this be in the Twins organization? Maybe Matt Williams?)

Now again, with the Grudzielanek signing, I think that Freddy Sanchez is now just a dream, but it will be interesting to see what the Pirates are able to acquire for him.
