Snappers Want Halladay

The Yankees. The Red Sox. The Phillies. The Beloit Snappers. What do these teams have in common? They have made proposals to the Toronto Blue Jays in an attempt to acquire Roy Halladay. (check out the Snappers press release) Here is more on that, as well as several other trade rumors. The big one today seems to have Cliff Lee going from Cleveland to the Phillies in a package that could include pitcher Carlos Carrasco, IF Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson. Thoughts?

From Joe Hamrahi (of Baseball Prospectus and Baseball Daily Digest): The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired first baseman Jeff Clement, shortstop Ronny Cedeno and right-handed pitchers Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for shortstop Jack Wilson and right-handed pitcher Ian Snell.

At least the Snappers are trying…

It sounds like Jason Knapp would be the center piece in the Lee deal.

If the deal goes through, I’ll miss the Carlos Gomez vs. Cliff Lee “Don’t bunt on me”,”I’ll bunt if I want to” spat that goes on at least a couple of times every year. Things were just getting fun!

i really dont think I would give up big prospects for a second baseman with balky knees. We are winning without making a move and i know the fans are going to flip out if we dont make a major move but i dont think it is the right thing to do

“We are winning without making a move”
not sure after 100 games being 1 game over .500 makes you a winning team. maybe technically it does and if mediocre is what you want?

I’m with ggg on that. 1 game over .500 after 100+ games does not make you a winning team.

I’m SHOCKED to read that other teams are making deals, and not the TWins, SHOCKED.

hell, i’d trade Angel Morales, Hicks, and several others off Beloit to get Halladay 🙂

The FO seems to will come up short on dealing for a decent 2B man, the biggest hole IMO. Why not, Mr Bill Smith, then spark the team with getting some inside the house deals done? Throw $180M to Mr Joe M. ($120M for 2011-2016) and to Mr Justin M. ($60 M for 2014-2016) and it shows some message. And a very well investment anyway. Sid Hartman thinks you are working very hard but being busy differs from getting something done and Twins fans might think you have only succeeded in getting rid of overweight.

Sanchez traded for the Giants number 4 prospect. I am SHOCKED the TWins didn’t land him…just SHOCKED.

Hummm….WIlson and Snell…the Twins could have offered Morales (Jose), Plouffe and three pitchers (Fox, Rainville and Duensing, for example).

I´m sorry for comment No 9, just had that thought. Maybe the Twins better start a seller´s mode and trade Mauer to the eats coast. Won´t make us feel better but whenm you´re not able to adjust you´re better off trading for the future way behind…

Afteer getting fleeced in his earlier moves Im afraid billy’s gunshy and will do nothing. The Sanchez trade makes me sick. The Twins couldnt beat that offer?

In comparison of farm systems, Alderson would have been #1 by quite a ways if he were in the Twins system. Bumgarner and Posey (SF’s 1 and 2) are top 10 prospects in all of baseball and Villalona (3) is also pretty high. Hicks would be the ONLY player that would rank closely (both Alderson and Hicks are considered top 50). I’d like to hope the Twins made and offer and the Giants was just better. To be honest, when I saw that Sanchez was traded for Alderson straight up, I was shocked the Pirates were able to get him. Great deal for the Pirates; too bad for the Twins.

I wouldn’t trade Hicks for Sanchez.

Giants are the typical club that panics at the deadline and overpay for short term players.

So we can also rule out going for Heath Bell. The presumed front runner for the All Star closer was the Florida Marlins. However they will not be making a deal because the Padres asking price for Bell was Sean West and Andrew Miller! To the Twins that would be the equivlent of Anthony Swarzak and Fransisco Liriano. No thanks. We have also heard the Reds are sellers but the asking price for Fransisco Cordero is too high as well especially with the money remaining on his deal.

Which leaves the fact that Jarrod Washburn is still out there. He can be had. I think the Twins have what it takes to get the 2 month rental. Maybe a deal revolving around Rene Tonossi and another pithing prospect such as Slama, Delany or Robertson.

The other target is Orlando Cabrera but Billy Beane and Bill Smith are too way different personalities and a deal will never get done because Smith is scared of looking like a fool for the 3rd consecutive trade (Johan Santana and Matt Garza).
