Winter Meeting Podcast Live at 10!

7 Dec

I’m not sure if we will have any guests on the SethSpeaks.net Winter Meeting Podcast tonight when it goes live at 10:00 central time, so I’ll need your help with 1.) Questions in the chat room, or 2.) Questions or comments by calling in to the show at 347-202-0548. Click here to listen live or to listen later.

UPDATEAaron Gleeman will be co-hosting the podcast!

It appears that Carl Pavano will accept the Twins offer of arbitration. That would give the Twins 4/5 of a starting rotation, and if you are like me and believe that Brian Duensing did enough to get the first shot at the 5th spot in the rotation, then the Twins may be done. To me, that is the only negative of signing Pavano. The rotation is set, and I’m not terribly excited about it. Now, if there are still additions to the starting rotation that could come to the Twins via trade, my thoughts are subject to change. Again, Carl Pavano is a much better option than Jarrod Washburn. I prefer the Twins get the draft pick, but this is far from a negative thing for the Twins. If it is the only thing that the Twins do during the offseason, then it would be incredibly disappointing.

But we can talk about any rumors you’re hearing, discuss names you are interested or intrigued by, or talk baseball in general. If we don’t have guests, the show will be your show to run, and I’ll just host it.

Solid, solid decision. We are two for two thus far.If they upgrade at 3rd [I believe they can do it internally with Valencia, but I’m not sure the Twins agree) and trade surplus pitching to update in left [Young will likely never be more than adequate], it will be a great day in Minnesota.

I like this signing and can”t wait to re listen to the Seth Blog. Pitching can be traded and should be secured for young talent only since they have free agents they could sign for one year or two max.

I would personally like to see Crede for 3rd and Lopez or Cabrera for 2nd with Punto super utility…

Now where would Harden fit in?

    Win Twins!

Seth, this is a great site and such dedication for Twins Fans!

    Seth,
Heard that Garret Akins may be non-tendered. Curious as to him as an alternative to bringing back Crede? MLB network said that his FA asking price may be around 2 million.

    Your thoughts?

Seth, I love this result. Pavano isn’t the Ace that many fans hope for, but all indications are that during his brief time here he was the veteran presence the Twins needed. He wants to be here and is a solid starter, albeit, not Roy Halladay. Expect the Twins will probably sign him to a deal around $5mm, plus some incentives that could take him to the $7mm range at 200 innings. Also, wouldn’t be surprised to see some type of vesting option for a second year. If it does end up as a one year deal, look for the Twins to again offer arbitration next year and get that sandwich pick we would have gotten this year. With this result, I now have changed my opinion and believe that giving up Pino for 200+ games of Pavano is a good deal.

If he accepted arbitration, do the Twins need to add Pavano to the 40 man roster now or after the arbitration process?

Boof was DFA. I guess that answers my question.

Not getting the draft pick for Pavano might just be delayed a year if is a type B again. Possibly type A…is it possible?

Pavano makes Glen Perkins expendable. Twins will trade Perkins and Casilla/Tolbert/Harris.

I guess there is no chance of getting josh Johnson if Florida really did turn down a Texas offer of Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz. Unreal to turn that offer down.

No way the Rangers offered that in a deal for Johnson. No way. You can’t believe everything that you read on MLB Trade Rumors.
