Kyle Gibson has been promoted to the New Britain Rockcats. Minutes ago, Travis Aune tweeted “Breaking News: RHP Kyle Gibson promoted to AA New Britain.” A quick glance at the New Britain Rockcats roster already showed Gibson this morning. 4-1 with a 1.87 ERA. He’s ready, and he should help out that Rockcats pitching staff. Congratulations to Kyle Gibson, who has been a friend of SethSpeaks since he was drafted, appearing on no less than eight podcasts, including one podcast less than two hours before he signed with the Twins at the deadline.

UPDATESBJ Hermsen is headed to Beloit to join the Snappers. Tom Stuifbergen has some elbow soreness and according to Jim Rantz is being put on the 7 Day DL (which, of course, means that he could just be getting a couple of extra days between starts). According to Stuifbergen, he just needed a few extra days. He doesn’t seem at all concerned.

Any questions? Leave your comments and congratulations here.

Cool. that’s a good 2 weeks sooner than I thought it would happen.

Great to see, I am very happy for Kyle and excited to see how he does. AA seems to be a dividing line for pitchers, especially college pitchers.

I was worried they would wait until after the all star break, but I am glad they promoted him now. I don’t see what else he could do at high A, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from making someone toil at a level.

Very busy few days of promotions for the pitchers. Coming much sooner than normal due to necessity.

Good news indeed! Also eager to see how Hermsen’s GCL success translates to the Midwest.

Hardy to the DL, and Tolbert activated.

Totally agree Seth, Plouffe deserving. We’ve already seen enough of Tolbert to know what he doesn’t bring to the bigs.

Totally agree Seth, Plouffe deserving. We’ve already seen enough of Tolbert to know what he doesn’t bring to the bigs.

If it was anyone other than Tolbert I would say, he will not get much playing time and the team is better off delaying Plouffe’s service time, but we all know that Tolbert will play a ton.

I can hope that Gardy goes with Punto/Harris most of the time, we know that if Tolbert is around, Gardy will play him. The solace is that although upside is much lower, his production cannot be much worse that Harris’

Is anybody getting video of Kyle Gibson pitching? That would be a very cool thing to see. A few clips of him pitching in AA would be nice…

Agreed on Trevor Plouffe, but keep in mind that if 60 percent of winning is pitching, then at least half of winning for Twins pitching (first strike, no walks, pitch to contact) requires great fielding, which puts a premium on guys that can field more than one position, even if they don’t hit much.

Unless Plouffe’s defense is unspeakably bad, their is no reason to call up Matt Tolbert. We have see what Tolbert or should I say isn’t capable of after a couple stints in the majors. Unfortunate because all the other moves this week have been really exciting as a Twins fan.

Congrats to Guerra, Gibson, Osterbrock, Hendricks, Tonkin and Hermsen.

Trevor Plouffe doth protest: 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs tonight for Rochester. (We’ll ignore the throwing error.)

Loek Van Mil: 6 BF, 4 Ks for the Miracle. So he can take Shooter’s role, and Shooter can go back to starting.

Since Loek is on the 40 man roster and was injured, I’m sure he’s getting a few tune-ups with the Miracle before he’s brought up to AA or AAA.

A move for Hunt should be in the very near future. Whether it be as a reliever to New Britain, the starting rotation in Fort Myers or starting in New Britain possibly.

Right, my comment was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek (relating the burn in my gut to get Hunt back into the rotation) — obviously didn’t translate.

Roberts went 3-5. He’s ready to move out of FM. Where to??

Repko has been a nice add for AAA, and Revere is a lock for playing time in AA.

Roberts did nothing in New Britain 3 seasons in a row. If he couldn’t mash A+ pitching as an (old) 25 year old, it’d be sad. I assume he was just brought in as filler until Hicks and/or Morales move up.
